Word Import into a Publication Design, then changing the Doc Title

S

SBMotoHead

I've imported a large Word document into Publisher and applied the "Straight
Edge" design to it. How do I change the top title bar from the default
"Document Title" to something else? Yah yah, I can go into 60+ pages and
change each text box but I'm looking for that header type question that will
apply it to all the pages.

Thanks
Dominic

Are these titles coming over from Word? Word has tools that Publisher does not, it
may be better to edit the titles in Word before you import. If you are asking about
the default logo that is present when you apply the straight edge design and you are
using the wizard. Change it on the first page, then all the other pages will reflect
the change, but you have to create the sixty plus pages first.
There is a header/footer dialog under view.

Mary,

The "Document Title" is in PUblisher as part of the Straight Edge Design.
I, in fact, assumed your solution was the way it was going to work but it
doesn't. Changing page one only changes page 1. Using the header/footer
simply adds a header on top of the Document Title image/text box. You would
think that changing the frist page would do it. In fact, creating and
altering a Master Page doesn't work either.

Any other suggestions?

My Original Process went like this:

Created an Appendix in MS Word 2002 SP-2
In Publisher 2002 SP-2...
Start From Design | Word Documents | Straight Edge Word Document
Import Word Document dialogue - Selected my saved appendix.doc
"Publisher Converting this file" popup
file complete and opened in Publisher with the top bar as described

Mary,

Thanks for that tip but it's still a brut force method. One would think
that if MS was going to go through all the trouble of creating dozens of
these Publication Designs for Word that they woul enable the end user to some
how alter these design elements and have them applicable to all pages.

So how about a follow up question -

How do you change the design BEFORE you do the import of Word?

Wow that's really an amazing thing. Just think...

MS creates a feature to import and convert Word docs - GOOD THING
MS Creates a crap load of nice Publication Designs - GOOD THING
MS Decides that everyone should have title bars with DOCUMENT TITLE - BAD

PRICELESS!!!!

Can this really be true?

I didn't really dig into it. I tried the "common sense" (stop
laughing)method of doing it and it didn't work. Maybe I need to use the BMF
hammer method. ;-)

There is a tutorial here that probably will be your solution. I do
believe the Master
Page is the way to go. What you need to do is have all your text boxes
the same on
each page. The tutorial and add in will help.

Okay, I figured it out, Copy the letterhead, paste it to the master page. Delete the
letterhead on the Publication page. Change the margins on the arrange menu to 1.25
left, 2 inches top. Create a text box on page one, insert a new page, tick "create
one text box on each page". Link the text box on page one to the text box on page
two. Paste your text on page one, Publisher will automatically create text boxes and
pages.
