Word Open File Dialog crawls when network drives no longer connected

I

ImOk

If I try to do a File/Open and click on the Look In dialog box it takes
a long time to see the folders. I found out, once I removed all the
disconnected network drives from the Windows Explorer list it was very
fast.

Somtimes I will have up to 10 network drives that I connect to,
depending on where I am. Windows Explorer shows them with an X when I
am not connected to the network but does not slow down. Neither do any
other apps when doing File/Open/Look In.

Only Word/Excel (2002) does this. Is there an option in Office to tell
it to ignore these drives? Or maybe a patch somewhere?

Thanks
