word xp problem opening files

Hi All,

I recently ran Office update to update my MS Office XP to the latest SPs and
ever since I have had a problem with Word. All of my word documents no
longer show a word icon on them. Also when I double click to open a
document Word will open, but the document will not open. If I then do a
file/open the document will then open. What could be wrong? What should I
do to correct this?

Right click on a Word Document in Windows Explorer -> Open
With -> Microsoft Word -> Check "always use this program".

Been there done that... The .doc extensions were already associated with
Word. However when I do it again I get the same result. Word opens, but
the document does not. What else should I look for?
