Word2K is hanging on network documents

I have a user whose Word2K is hanging when he opens
documents on a mapped network drive. Other MS
applications are not having the problem, and opening local
files is not a problem.

Task manager shows Word.exe ... not responding
and explorer.exe not responding when this occurs.

Any ideas???
