Greetings - We have multiple Macs + 1 Windows machine opening and
editing an Excel file located on a Mac server. Macs are running Office
2008, the PC is running Office 2003. Compatibility mode is turned on
for the Macs (saving as .xls). When someone attempts to open a file
that is already open they receive the expected message that: "File
name" is locked for editing by "User name". Click 'Notify' etc., etc."
That's expected. What started happening last week, with one file only,
is the "user name" is always the same. In other words, Bob is reported
to have the file open when Mary actually does. It's always Bob. So to
find the real user takes some detective work. Also - Bob is the sole
Windows user, don't know if that has anything to do with this.
Permissions on the server are correct and the same as they've always
been. Everything was working fine until recently. The file appears
okay otherwise. Once "Bob" closes the file, the new user can edit and
save with no problems. Any ideas on how to fix this? Or how it
happened?
Thanks,
Mr T
