XP Home & general problems

B

Bob Bell

I recently purchased my first computer for home and it has XP Home
installed. My problems began when I incorrectly downloaded from the
MS.com pages media player Version 10 which as you probably know is for
XP Professional. Now every time I start the computer a message appears
saying that it is trying to install the XP Pro front page which once
again I do not have, plus every time I attempt to go into Word or Power
Point the same thing happens, also Excel has gone from a green icon to a
white icon and when I try to get into it it says the program is not
accessable. To top it all I tried to re-instate the computer to an
earlier date and find I can only go back to the 6th of April 2005. Can
someone please advise me on wher all my problems lie as I have taken it
back to the supplier with more failures than successes.

first of all, let's clarify that WMP10 is for Home Edition too.

Note that if you have Word, Excel, etc, you actually have an Office suite
(such as Pro with Frontpage) installed therefore, it is an absolutely
correct fact the installer displays.

I'd recommend doing a detect&repair for Office from the Control Panel.
