Hi,

The Excel - File - Edit - View - ETC menus are always visible at the top of
the screen in Excel. You can't turn them off or hide them. What's at the top
of your screen when you are using Excel?

Ooooh, what a nasty bug...

You CAN remove the View Menu: Choose View/Customize Toolbars & Menus,
then in the proxy menu toolbar (the one that appears just under the
actual menu bar), drag View off the toolbar. Click OK in the dialog
box...

The problem of course, is that there's no longer a View menu to choose
View/Customize Toolbars & Menus... !!!

One solution would be, with Excel closed, to delete the

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Excel Toolbars (12)

file.

Another would be to run this AppleScript (which I now have in my Excel
Script Menu!):

tell application "Microsoft Excel"
reset command bar 1
end tell

Cool, J.E.! Your script, which I've now saved, did the job without
affecting other toolbars as the first option might have. Thank you, very
much!

Would it be appropriate to bring into this thread a related topic and what
sent me looking for View (and the ability to select its "Customize Toolbars
and Menus).

I was able to get into to Customize Toolbars and Menus but couldn't figure
out how to do what I raised in my earlier post:

Subject: 2008: How do I remove from view buttons bar for
"Sheets Charts SmartArt Graphics WordArt"

I'm sure the addition in Office 2008 of the following buttons bar that
displays between the toolbars and the top of workbooks has value:

Sheets Charts SmartArt Graphics WordArt

How do I remove that bar from view or from Excel preferences, please?

1. I find them distracting.
2. I have accidentally clicked one or another of the buttons when working
at the top of my Excel documents.

Not really. But see my reply to your other post.
