24HR Base Calendar Bug?

R

rkilgore

Start a blank project and set Project Calendar 24 Hour. The Gantt chart does
not change the display of non-working time and the default start time for the
first activity is stil 8:00 AM. ????? It appears the calendar has actually
changed because task duration does exceed 5:00 PM and can be started at hour
0, but why does the non-working time still appear on the Gannt chart?

And if it is a bug, how does it get reported?

Hi,

It's not a bug at all.
The parameters you mention have to be changed in Tools, Optoions, Calendar,
to be synchroneous with the calendar.

Hello rkilgore,

No, not a bug, just a different selection :) The non-working time display
in your Gantt is from the Standard calendar. Choose Format > Timescale and
select the 24Hours calendar on the Non-working time tab.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you - that does change the display, but still these seems like an odd
because
1. The change in the Project Calendar setting should change the Non-Working
time display in the Gantt chart. Why would you ever want those to not be in
sync?
2. The default time for the first task entered into a 24 hour base calendar
does not change from hour 8 to hour 0.

I did reply to the second one.
Changing the calendar does not change the Gantt Chart settings, nor the
default start, nor the definition of what is a day.
Don't worry about why, that's how it is.

Yikes! I found the solution in the "other"-"other" calendar deep in Project
options where I have to change the default start time for a task the project
calendar which is not changed by the change to a 24Hour project calendar in
Project information. The warning to the right to match this to the calendar
I chose seems odd because I would expect this information to change BASED on
the calendar I chose.

Not bugs I suppose, but certainly seems to be too many places where base
calendar information and display for a project is modified.

Just because work proceeds 24/7 doesn't mean that the project will kick-off
at 1201am on Day 1 or that's when the first task should begin. And the
second task will start at whatever time the predecssor finishes and its
allowed to start - boundaries between days have no bearing on that. If task
1 ends at 3pm, task 2 begins at 3pm regardless of what time your normal
workday begins.
