Audit Use of a Word Document

How can I record, in a separate Word Document, details of anyone that opens a
specific word document. I need to record the name of the user and the time
the document was opened

You need additional software for this. Visual SourceSafe has been
recommended.

Word has no function that will do this, but there are all kinds of spyware
and logging tools that would allow you to record such information.
