Automatically Update Styles

I have a user that keeps running into a problem with Word
automatically updating her styles. She does not want this
to happen, and even though we turn it off, it comes back
a few weeks later.

Why would her styles reset to auto update? Is there a way
to globally apply the setting to turn this off?
