calendar updates

Hi-
I have entered a one week vacation using the resource sheet/set non
working time.
The Gantt view did not move scheduled work for those dates out until
the resource's return.
Tools/tracking/update project had no effect...
A basic function...have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Also, is there a way to show non-working time of resources in the time
scale view? There is a tab, but can't get it to show color changes
anywhere.
Thanks

Hi John,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

You've raised a number of points here.

Check you have Tools/Options.../Calculation tab, Calculation set to
Automatic.

Project should take into account the non-working time automatically.
However, it is more usual/simpler to change the resource's calendar via
Tools/Change Working Time.

Tools/Tracking/Update project is designed to update a project that has
actual times entered like Actual Start or Actual Work.

In the Resource Usage view, right-click in the cell area and select Detail
Styles... You will see a variety of fields that can be shown - Remaining
Availability might help to show what you want. You can change the cell
background colour in the same dialog.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi John,

As for not reacting to nonworking time, that is not "normal".
Did you set the task as completed before? Project doesn't move completed
work
Did you have the calculations set to automatic in Tools, Options,
Calculation?

As for showing nonworking time,no, sorry :-(

Thanks for the quick response..
calculate must have been inadvertently turned off...
Is it possible to write a macro to insert a task when work time changes
and link to the timescale/non working time/color set up?
I go to high level meetings where c types see a task with 1 day
duration & 11 days worth of dates. I have to hunt around to see if it's
a resource or task dependency across several external projects.
need more practice on navigation
Regards
John

Hi,

The macro in the "Article on MS Project" in my website may inspire you.
