"call" a document (file) into another document in a mail merge pr macro.

I sthere a way to "call" a file, or document into a mail
mere template or macro.

I mail out some letter s from time to time. The basic
document is the same but I insert one standard page into
each document The info on this page changes often yet I
do not want to have to change many documents which contain
this page every time it changes. There are many diferent
docs, all using this page.

Much simpler would be to "call" this page into a document
thereby allowing us to change it only one time as required.

In word Perfect they called this "nesting documents" What
is the command, if any in WOrd?

Thanks

Hi Sidney,

Use an { INCLUDETEXT } field. Select Fields from the Insert Menu and then
select that field and add the filename of the file containing the standard
page.

Hi Sidney,

If you update the fields in the document, the text displayed in the {
INCLUDETEXT} field will change the reflect changes made in teh source data.

Using Include text seems to be a one time shot, even for
template used for merging.

I would like to be able to update the included text from
time to time when calling that document. Is there away to
do that?

Hi, Sidney,

The IncludeText field can update both ways. If you change the source
document, then go to the destination document, select the field, and press
F9 to update it. If you change the text in the field in the destination
document, then leave the cursor in the field and press Ctrl+Shift+F7 to save
the change back to the source document.

Both of these are listed in the Help topic on "keyboard shortcuts" under
"working with fields".

Hi Sidney,

If the text in the file that is referenced in the INCLUDETEXT field is
modified, when you update the fields in the document that includes the
INCLUDETEXT field, the text displayed in that field will be updated to
reflect that which currently exists in the referenced document.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a consulting basis.

Hope this helps
