can default picture format be changed

Using Word 2002 - when I use Insert, picture from file, I always have to
change the picture format layout to square. Is there a way to set this as
the default format?

Tools > Options > Edit. In left-hand column, sixth box - "Insert/paste
picture as:"

Thanks for that - I had managed it in the apst, but after a reformat and
reinstall of everything I just couldn't remember where the setting was.

Aye, it can be a real PITA to find that one special setting sometimes,
especially after a reinstall when everything returns to default. Glad
to hear you've got it sorted.
