cannot locate files when opening from microsoft word

my problem is that, when save some word documents into my
folder, i can see the files is in the folder but when run
my microsoft office word program and click on "open" and
from there i go n search for word documents i save in
that folder but i can't seem to see it. But when I go to
that folder from windows explorer i can see it is inside
that folder. when try to replace the same file using the
ms word it said that it will replace the exisiting file
but just that i can't see the files from ms word. please
helpl

Are you saving the documents using the standard .doc extension? Do you have
"Files of type" in the File Open dialog set to All Files, Word Documents, or
All Word Documents? Is the folder itself Hidden? If so, do you have Windows
Explorer set to display hidden files and folders?
