Can't open file in MS Project 2007

Hollis

I've been working on a file with no problem, which I saved last evening.
THis morning, it gives me a message that it can't read the format. I'm
suspecting that I've somehow corrupted the file by adding a lot of
hyperlinks. Is there any way to find an earlier version that I can open?
(Unfortunately, I do NOT have a backup and didn't even print it!!!)

Hi Hollis,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

The only possibiliyy I know of is to open a new project and immediately try
to Import your corrupt file into it. Might work. If it does, do yourself a
favour and save at least one backup :) If you suspect a corrupt file and
you can open it, you could try the suggestions in FAQ Item: 43. Handling
project file corruption and/or bloat.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Thanks Mike. Unfortunatley, I'm still getting the same error message about
it not recognizing the file format. I did look at FAQ43 (I found your reply
to someone else earlier), but it sounds like that will only help AFTER I can
get it open. I'm suspecting it has to do with too many hyperlinks and the
fact that I put my computer in sleep mode v totally shutting down last night.
When I came in this morning it said it had inadvertently shut down due to a
problem. In the meantime, I've put in a call to MS - unfortunately, I missed
their first return call! I'll definitely be saving back-ups from now on!

You're welcome, Hollis, but if you can't load or insert the project I don't
hold up much hope :( Please can you tell us the result of your dealings
with MS? :)
