can't open word file attachment in outlook

Office XP - A problem has developed where a Word Attachment to an inbound
email will not open. Message received is "Can't create file: ****.doc.
Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click
Propertuies on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for this folder"

I have tried the instructions but cannot find any issues.
