Capture the cursor for illustrating

G

I'm producing a Help leaflet for use with Publisher (2000) but
screen-shots do not capture the cursor. Anyone know where there is a
store of the images that I can use to illustrate my tips?

Much appreciated,

Why not just add a .gif of the cursor wherever you need it? And make sure
it's big and red so it can be easily seen.

I have found the following freebie to be quite
useful for acquiring quick screen shots.

Gadwin PrintScreen
http://www.gadwin.com/download/

And...it has an option you can select that will
capture the cursor. Just place the cursor in
the position you like before pressing your
PrintScreen key and it will appear in the final
screen shot.

I have it set so all I have to do is:

1) Press...Print Screen...
2) Drag a box around the content I wish to save...
3) Press enter...
The screen shot is immediately saved as a .jpg
in a folder of my choice.

I specifically wanted the "linked boxes" "jug" ones to show staff what to
look for but any htat are specific to Publisher - as those ones are - would
be really useful please.

There is a way to do this but it gets a little tricky. The icon of the jug
(although it looks like a mug to me) is in the Help file. There is a way to
decompile the .chm file and extract the graphics. I used to create Help
files for a former employer and we used a specific software package. I
"think" I can do this if you can give me a day or so to remember how to use
Windows built-in applications.

~~~~~~~~~~~OR~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can take a screen shot of the help file and crop away everything except
the mug.
(It goes without saying that I'm going to play with the Help file. I used to
enjoy creating them and sometimes it's nice to brush up on old skills.)
That's very kind - I'll look forward to seeing the results. In the meantime,
I think a simple screen shot of the Help file will be abaoauat as complex as
I need for this project. thanks - I'll keep looking to learn more.
The text cursor? Let me know which cursors you need and I will put them on a web
page. See attached. If you open the mouse folder in the control panel, you could
do a screen capture of the pointers there.
THAT'S IT! I used to use ForeHelp and Help Magician years ago. I was trying
to find the command line to use. Thank you. :)
Until you've ever created, compiled, and tested a Help file you can't say
jack. I was fortunate that we used ForeHelp. I've tweaked my Help files by
hand but it can be a b*tch. I really appreciated Pete's post. :)
JoAnn,
There is a way to decompile the .chm file and extract the graphics.
You can do this with Microsoft's free help authoring tool, HTML Help
Workshop, which is available from here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/htmlhelp/html/hwMicrosoftHTMLHelpDownloads.asp
Or you could just open a Command Prompt window and type the following
command:
hh -decompile destination_folder path\filename.chm
where "destination_folder" specifies a folder in which to put the
extracted files. For example:
hh -decompile c:\temp C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\1033\PBMAIN11.chm
