Clipboard does not save

I do medical transcription and am attempting to use
Windows XP and word 2002. I work on a program called
IDX, which uses Word for word processing. If I have to
back out of a repor - for example, a doctor may begin
dictating, then give a template# that should have been
used. I have to copy what I have typed, then back out of
the report to pull up the template, then enter back into
the document. When I re-enter and attempt to paste the
document the clipboard is empty. This is really
frustrating because I have to retype what I copied to the
clip board. I have a Gateway computer. I spent a whole
day on the phone with their tech's only to lose
everything on my computer. I had my computer at Gateway
for servicing for a week, and just got it back and it
still has the same problem. Any suggestions on what I
shoud do or any direction to go for assistance? I am at
a loss.

Thank you for your help.

Did you get Word as part of Works Suite? If so, one of the nasty habits of
the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word is to clear the Clipboard when
starting Word. If you're using Word freestanding (not starting it from the
Works Task Launcher), you would be well advised to uninstall the add-in
(through Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs).
