I currently use Office 2003 and, of course, that version of Outlook. I
haven't paid a lot of attention to them as it didn't apply to me but I
know there are problems with using parts of Office products from
different releases so, the logical question, if I buy the new Office
home edition which doesn't include Outlook, will I still be able to use
my copy of Outlook and have links to Powerpoint, Word etc work? I don't
use Word as my e-mail editor so it doesn't seem to me that there should
be a problem but I do wonder about it. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

You can go ahead and use it (it has been done successfully by others), but I
wouldn't then use Word as my email editor if I had a different version of
Word than Outlook. It can cause Outlook issues with attachments not showing
up at the recipients' end for one.
