Copying tasks within the same project

Ok, I've searched and searched and couldn't find anything. I'm hoping this
is a simple step I'm over-looking! I'll try my best to describe the problem
I'm having.

I have a task that I'm wanting to duplicate. This task has sub-tasks and
milestones within it. All durations and dates have been filled out along
with any predecessors.

What I'd like to do is copy this entire task (with all sub-tasks,
milestones, etc.), paste it within the same project, and "push" all the dates
forward (for instance 2 days).

Description - I've got an entire project that has multiple "mini-projects"
within it. I want to be able to duplicate these "mini-projects" and simply
push the start date forward a couple of days. I was hoping to just be able
to "drag" the timeline forward, but it obviously won't let me do that. Is
there any other option other than changing every single date within the task
that is being copied? I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance for all
your help.

Are the tasks linked? If they are linked, they may adjust themselves.

Or

If you can figure out a way to sort the view so the new tasks are in
the correct order, you could then enter the new start date for the
first task for which that start date applied, then fill down the rest.
Not a whole lot better than doing them all, unless there are large
numbers of tasks with the same start date.

Hope this helps in your world.

Hi CB,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I believe you're talking about a summary task - one that has real tasks
indended under it. So, click the little minus sign next to its name to
close it down. Now click its ID (row) number to highlight the whole row.
Then click and drag downwards to wherever you want it to go but hold the
Ctrl key down before you let go. This will give you a copy. Click the plus
sign to open it up.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

You can also use the "Copy" and "Paste" icons on the tool bar once the
summary task is collapsed.

You need to make certain there are appropriate predecessors to the task, do
not "ever" hard code a date if it can be avoided.

If your new series of tasks must roll forward by "2" days there must be some
other task that must be complete before this one starts.

Sometimes I create a milestone "Project Start" with 0 duration. I hard code
that date. Then, I can always use that task as a predessor and add a lag.
If you double click on the task name and view the "Predecessors" tab, you
should see what I mean.
