Creating Publisher Output from an Access Database

S

Sitara Lal

Hi,

I would like to know whether it is possible to do something like this with
MS Publisher 2003, without any kind of programming (VB or any other kind of
coding):

Let's say I am a teacher and have an Access database of different books
(tables contain fields such as Author, synopsis, reviews etc.). Now I would
like to create reading lists for different students using MS Publisher,
where each list is a unique combination of books, with relevant information
from each book being pulled from the database.

Would it be possible to design some kind of Publisher document or template,
and then generate publications populated by selected rows from a linked
database? Obviously the end product must look smart with images etc. (hence
the need for MS Publisher, rather than a simple database report), but it
should also be something where I don't have to create the design elements
manually for each report.

If yes, do you have any suggestions about where I could go to read up the
details of such a procedure?

If not, do you know any other program which can do this simply and yet
elegantly?

Thanks

You would have to create a table for each student's reading list, and a
table containing all the book data.
Then you would have to use MakeTable queries to create tables containing the
book data for each student's reading list.
Then you would have merge one table into one publication, and repeat for
each table, using the Catalog Merge.

and you would have to have the path to all the pictures in a folder.

If you think this is all to hard and a nightmare, you are right.

Might be hard for those down under, but it's pretty easy over here in the
good ol US of A!
