Dates Refuse To Move

Hi Gang!

I'm a bit stuck on this one, so hopefully someone has encountered this and
has some tips on its resolution:

Using MSP 2000 with Project Central. Programme with appx. 600 lines. Nothing
special in terms of set-up or configuration.

Problem: When inserting a new task, as part of a sub-set, the start-date of
the new task seems to be governed by the start-date of the task that is
immediately above, even though the task above has absolutely no relationship
with the new task. Regardless of how I try and link the task, I can never get
it to start earlier....although I can get it to start later. I think I've
checked-out most of the optional defaults etc. but nothing seems to change
it. It's happening only with this file (which I inherited).

Any got any ideas.

Thanks indeed.

You said you are entering a new subtask. There's proably a link going to
its parent task that is driving the earliest start dates for the entire
group. If the parent is set to start at some point in time, none of its
children can start any earlier.

Hi Steve,

That was my initial thought, so I checked-out the links and found nothing
untoward. However, your reply prompted me to re-examine the links....some of
which were linked to summary tasks. I removed the summary task links and,
Hey Presto!...a whole host of stuff started moving around (seemingly without
any reason) plus it's now doing precisely what I ask of it.

Although the there was nothing untoward about the links to the summary tasks
there must have been some form of induced "error" for subsequent
inputting/manipulation of data. Anyway, it goes to show.....just BE CAREFUL!!

Thanks for your help.

Hi James,

Make sure this is not selected: Tools/Options/Schedule tab - Autolink
inserted or moved tasks.
