Difficulty setting paper size in Visio 2003

I have created a large supply chain diagram in Visio 2003 SP1 and am having
difficulty setting a custom paper size for printing. I am using an HP Design
Jet Plotter, so the paper width is limited only by the roll length. I can
adjust the paper size under the printer settings, but the settings do not
stick. Now, as I add to the diagram (make it wider) the size of the diagram
shrinks so it will fit to the artificially small page.

Any help is appreciated.

Are you setting the page size on the Page Size tab of the Page Setup dialog?
It sounds like the "same as printer paper size" button is set. You should be
able to choose any page size when the button is not set. If this is larger
than the printer paper size, then multiple printer pages will be printed.
When it is set, the page size is adjusted to match the printer paper size.

John,

I am having the same issue. I can create a custom paper size for my HP
Designjet 1050, but cannot get Visio 2003 to change the custom size from
8.5x11. It refuses, regardless of the page size settings. The tab shows the
proper custom size, in my case 70" wide by 36" high, but once I hit Ok, it
shows Custom 1: 11"x8.5". This is regardless of the Custom X number I use.
I have tried Custom 5 to no avail.

Please let us know how to fix this. I need to print a large swim lane
project map and cannot do so.

Thanks

Mark Ryan

I found a work around that worked for me.

RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, set the custom page size by using the Printers
icon in Control Panel. If you set the custom page size for your system as a
whole, Visio uses the correct paper size.
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
2. Right-click the HP DesignJet icon, and then click Properties on the
shortcut menu.

NOTE: If you are using Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows NT, click
Printing Preferences, otherwise continue to the next step.
3. Click the Paper Size tab.
4. Click More Sizes.
5. Select one of the custom paper sizes next to Name.
6. Enter the custom paper size that you want.
7. Click OK to close each dialog box.
