Document Size Problem

All of sudden, Excel is fouling up the document size and printing out either
a small box in the middle of a page or else dividing it up into 12 pages
with just a few cells vertically and horizontally on each. If go into Print
Preview and move the dotted lines so that the document will be one page
again (it has always been easily one page; I am not trying to reduce it),
then Excel automatically reduces the size to 32%. If I change it back to
100%, then I get the multipage print preview lines again. This is now
happening with all my previous documents that used to be just fine. I have
no idea what could have happened to produce this problem. Can anyone
help--please!?

Well, since you make no mention of what version of Excel, what type of
printer or what operating system it's rather hard to venture a responsible
guess... From the content of your message there isn't even anything to
confirm you're using a Mac [this is the group for the Mac version].

Whatever your configuration I'd suggest that you make sure that your
software & your OS are fully updated & check the printer mfr's web site for
an updated driver for your model. If that doesn't correct the problem don't
hesitate to return but please be sure to include all system particulars.

So sorry, I figured you'd know it was a Mac or I wouldn't be using a Mac
forum. But I really should have mentioned that I am using Office for Mac
2004. The OS is the latest Leopard 10.5.7. And yes, I update my Office
version every time a new one comes out. I do have 2008 but don't want to use
the apps except for Entourage someday. My printer software is also up to
date and was just recently reinstalled. So there are no concerns about
having software that is not updated--unless you want to count the fact that
I'm using 2004 as out of date.

I hope that is all that you needed me to fill in.

Not a problem, but you'd be surprised how many people somehow get
misdirected... Sometimes a question on a completely different program :)

If all software is current the next question has to do with Page Setup &
Print dialog settings. You haven't indicated what they might be so I'd
suggest you check to make sure everything is set as it should be -
especially in regard to Scaling. What settings re currently in use?

Most print settings are specific to the sheet/book in which they're made. If
this is happening in all of your files there must be something external
causing it to occur. Do you have any 3rd party add-ins or "haxies"
installed? Does restarting the Mac have any effect?

Launch Excel while holding the Shift key - does the problem persist?

Try logging in while holding the Shift key - any difference?

What if you run Excel from a different User Account - same problem?

Thank you for your suggestions. While working through them, I was able to
find the source of the problem; however, it led to another question. I have
3 HP printers connected to this Mac. One them I use strictly for envelopes.
I have it set for that and never change it. But I had trouble with it the
other day and wound up having to set it up again. Apparently, those settings
took hold of my all-in-one printer as well. And that is why the documents at
100% were 12 pages (really 12 envelopes, I guess).

So my question is why would this have happened when I have had this set up
working for years without ever having to make changes every time I want to
change from an envelope to a letter size sheet and back. That was one of the
very reasons why I devote a separate printer to envelopes.

Thank you again for your help. At least I have the major problem resolved
now.
