Does Microsoft Word 97 work in Windows XP?

When I try to open Word 97 in XP it briefly flashes across the screen and
rests in the tool bar but does not open. If I click on the tool bar it
flashes into the office toolbox without opening. Exel within Office 97 works
ok though. Is there a fix for this problem with Word?

97 *does* work in XP, but users do report various issues. The
technologies are years apart, so problems/issues are not uncommon.
However, if Word opens and just sits there, it might be that there are
not enough resources to run the app. Word is a big of a resource pig.
So make sure your PC is up to par. See this article for some tips:

If problems persist, you might want to consider upgrading to at least
2000...which runs fine.

Good luck.

Thanks. The MouseTrax link that you directed me too is useful. However, as
my computer on which Word 97 doesn't work in XP is brand new with virtually
nothing on it other MY Documents that I have tried tocopy ontoit, the answer
is that I have to spend more money to upgrade my Microsoft Office.

Sorry it doesn't work for you. But do realize that WinXP is using more
modern/better technology and Office 97 is VERY OLD. So you are missing
out on better, faster, safer technology by using that version.

Good luck...
