Duration-Bar anomoly

M

using 2003/2007 - I have 2 tasks (A & B) that show 21 days duration.
task B is a successor to A with a SS+7 days link. task A shows a bar
of 21 days but task B task bar only shows 7 days for the bar and it
does not start on the correct day. The constraint on both tasks is
ASAP. They both have the same calendar.

However, when I cycle the calendar for task B, task B then starts on
the correct day and the bar shows 21 days.

I have a couple of other tasks that show the same behavior.

I have never seen this before. Anybody have a clue what is going on?

Hi meg99,

Is there a resource assigned to task B that has a different
calendar? Frequently duration "issues" are caused by calendars is
some way. If you change task calendars, Project will attempt (by
default) to schedule the task for working time in common between the
assigned resource and the task calendar.
I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

You asked: Is there a resource assigned to task B that has a
different calendar?
No resources have been assigned. The calendars are the same. As I
stated, when I cycle the calendar, somthing is calculated and the bar
length then matches the duration. I have never seen this before.

Okay, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "cycle" the calendar. I
assume you mean change the task calendar on the task?

Is there non-working time in the project calendar or the task calendar? Is
task B set as 21edays in duration?

If this is not a resource calendar issue and you are not changing to a task
calendar which have different working time definitions, I have to guess that
the Project file has a mild level of corruption which is causing a few tasks
to behave incorrectly. The length of the bar may change if you change to a
task calendar which has a different working time definition. However, if
both task A and Task B are using the same calendar and both are defined as 21
days in duration, and they overlap by 14 days (SS + 7d), then they both
should reflect the same data.

On a copy of the file, follow the suggestions at FAQ 43 at:
