duration change

Hi hope someone can advise

I have just inherited a plan (500 lines) which has a duration set in days
for 33+ resources. My new PM has asked me how many hrs do i need to complete
the project
Historically -
Resources have been providing guesstimate information for their tasks
durations saying "thats going to take about 3 weeks" so the project has been
allocating 100% for the period.

Now - the project is tight for time/money so I have asked each resource how
long they actually need and there duration - so I have ended up now with say
" i only need 6 hrs over a different 3 weeks period"

The question is : how do i incorporate this new info into the plan bearing
in mind that some acitivities have already started and, i need to be able to
give a accurate requirment to my PM.

More information is probably needed to give you the best answer.
However, you can enter remaining work in a number of ways (Task Entry
Form, add the Remaining Work column to the Task Usage view etc) and
proceed from there.

If you want to modify remaining work and duration, I guess the Task
Entry Form gives you access to all the fields you want simultaneously.

thanks - didnt see ur response till now what i did was to amend all the hrs
and durations using the resource chart box which has the list of tasks and
the hrs spread over the duration - Is this good practice to do it like this
or should i have done it another way

Not sure what you mean by the resource chart box. If you mean the
Resource Usage view and you are entering hours in the right-hand table
for each period/column on the chart, then it sounds like hard work to me.

I would be doing that in the Gantt view with the Remaining Work and
Remaining Duration columns showing. Unless you actually have to edit
work on a week-by-week basis I would avoid that.

Best practice would go along the following lines:
- Enter each week the hours accrued by each task
- For each task enter the remaining hours
- Update the project so that uncompleted work is brought forward past
the status date
- Level (maybe iteratively by adjusting the remaining durations as
necessary).
