Editing (track changes on) made to ".rtf" file with Word 2040 gone!!

Tony

Hi,

Yesterday I received an ".rtf" file from a PC-Windows, opened it with
Word 2004 on Mac OS X 10.2.8, activated all options on "Tools/Track
Changes" and edited the file. I could see in red all editing on the
right side. I saved the file several times.

Today when I have open the file again, all editing has gone!!! Not only
I do not see any red tracked changes on the right, none of the editing
has in fact being saved at all.

The only issue between yesterday and today is that I had to delete the
"com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist" file to get Word 2004 menus back to
normal (see my other posts).

What is going on? How to fix this?

As far as I can tell this is a serious bug of Word 2004 with ".rtf"
files. I have had no problem with ".doc" files.

Thanks.

Tony -

Only a .doc (Word) file will retain features that are special to Word. If
you save the file as a .doc file and work on it, you will be able to save
tracked changes.

If you have the original copy of the .rtf file, you can compare yours to it
after saving both as .doc files to be safe.

Finally, when you are posting on newsgroups, please do yourself a big favor
and do not use your real email address. It is a great big "KICK ME" sign for
spammers.

Hope this helps.

Best,

- Bill
