This past Thursday, Entourage locked up and will not open e mails from web
mail or regular e mails to business.

What can I do to correct the problem?

Did this start after you updated?
What version of Entourage?
Can you send & receive?
Can you give more details about "locked up?"

Hi Diane!

Thanks for the reply!

I have not updated entourage

Send & receive will not work.

I think that I have too many e mails on computer and various categories and that I lack the skill to erase now that the entourage stops loading.

Thanksl.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but I asked for specific info and you replied
with a bare minimum of info. We'll be happy to help you but we need info.

What version of Entourage? Look under "About Entourage" in the Menu bar.

Can you give more details about "locked up?"

Did Entourage every work for you? When did the problem start? You indicate
you have mail and that Entourage doesn't work. This is just too vague to
know what to suggest.

If you think you need hands on help, I do consulting work for very
reasonable prices. However, most problems can be handled here on the list.

On May 21 I installed Windows SP1 for Macs on my MacBook Pro 2.6GH. I use entourge as my email application. Since installing SP1 I could not receive emails for 24 hours. That has now corrected itself, but when I send emails, they are described as coming from "Office 2004 Test Drive User". I have checked my account details, and my own name is in the "From" Field, and I have uninstalled the Test Drive package quite some time ago. There is obviously a bug with SP1. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, but I cant find a solution.

Any suggestions?

James

Someone else mentioned just today to try this....

Here's how I solved that same problem: Open WORD and click on Word/
Preferences/User Information(Under Personal settings). Make sure your
name is shown and not "Office 2004 Test Drive User". "That was
Easy!" </quote>

Let me know if this works for you.

Hi Carlose!

This thread was started about someone's problem about Entourage and
Exchange. Your question is completely unrelated.

I suggest you always, always start your own thread for your own
questions. More folks are likely to pay attention to it and you won't be
diverting from the subject of someone else's problem.

Good luck!

I'm not sure how to post a new question. I love Entourage's calendar module. I only wish iCalendar was as good.

With Entourage 2004 you can click anywhere on a calendar item and it comes up to edit it. With Entourage 2008 you have to click on the far left of the first word. I feel that should be fixed. Also "Today's Date" is such a light yellow color that it is hard to see today's date quickly upon opening Entourage's Calendar module.

James, I suggest you start your own new thread. Your question seems
unrelated to this old thread, which has taken so many turns it's now
useless for finding answers.

I too started with Office 2008 Home & Student 2008 and have been using this for some time now, after upgrading from Office 2004. I have purchased Office 2008 for Mac so that I can get the Exchange support.

This may be an obvious question, but in order to upgrade, do I need to first remove the Office 2008 Home and Student, and then install Office 2008 for Mac? If so, how do I use the database (email, etc.) from my use of the Home & Student edition in the newly installed Office for 2008 for Mac? Do I copy the Identities folder to another location and copy it back after installing? Or do I just install the Office 2008 for Mac over Office 2008 Home & Student?

Thank you for your replies.

I just installed 2008 without removing anything. During the process of
installation it will ask you if you want to remove old or other office
programs(it apparently only removes the program and not settings and data
base) and later on it will migrate your old data base, etc from your other
office.

You cannot run an upgrade. You will need to install the standard version.
Since this has not come up I'm not exactly sure what will happen if you try
installing over since you will be using a difference CD key. My first
thought is to just install over, but the safest way would be to use "Remove
Office" and be sure there are no Microsoft preferences in your User's
Library.

Follow directions here.

Install Office 2008
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/install_office2008.html>

I would backup your Microsoft User Data folder just as added insurance. The
install process should not touch this folder but in rare cases it has.

When you launch Entourage, you can create your Exchange accounts in your
current Identity.

If for some reason you get the message there is a problem with your Office
database, just move the Microsoft User Data folder to the desktop. Let
Entourage create a new one, then move your individual folders back. I had
this happen to me when I did a fresh install on a new computer this week
end.

Was this a standard install over a Home & Student version? This works on the
same version but not sure about Home & Student version over Standard.

It was a standard install over a standard install of 2004. I had the wizard
remove my 2004 version. I don't think this makes any difference but these
were "Home Use Program" versions.

S

Sam Brown

Correct. Even says it on the box. You need the professional edition for
exchange support.

A

Aaron Marks

Correct, although very backwards considering that many educational
institutions use Exchange.

You could ask your children's school's IT department if they support
IMAP. If they support IMAP then you should have no problem setting the
email account up in any version of Entourage.

Also, I assume that you are having problems with getting Mail.app to
work with Exchange because you are running Mac OS X 10.4.11 and your
kid's school is running Exchange 2007 (either RTM or SP1 doesn't make a
difference). The version of Mail.app that is included with Mac OS X
10.4 is not compatible with Exchange 2007 and you will be guaranteed to
experience many problems. The easiest solution would be to upgrade to
Mac OS X 10.5.3 which has Microsoft Exchange 2007 support via WebDAV
and IMAP which it calls "Exchange" support.

I hope that this is informative enough to help.
