Have a look at "How Entourage 2008 works with different versions of
Exchange Server" on Mactopia
.
It compares using Entourage 2008 with Exchange Server 2003 and 2007.

Hope this helps!

Does the above mentioned list of Exchange servers mean that Entourage 2008
does not connect to Exchange 5.5?[/QUOTE]

Entourage 2008 will connect to Exchange 5.5 in IMAP mode. However, it
will not connect to an Exchange 5.5 server in Exchange mode, meaning you
lose all of the Exchange-specific features.

Entourage (MS Home & Student edition) has decided to quit on launch after having worked perfetly for a coupel of days. I have cleaned the disc a couple of times - under verify permisions I find that "ACL is unexpectedly found in hundreds of applications and files". What is wrong and more important - what can I do before I definitely switch to iWork from Apple.

You have hijacked a thread. In order to get your issues addressed, it's best
to start your own thread.

This is a NNTP newsgroup. This is not a web forum. Mactopia just offers you
an interface to access the newsgroup. You can use the Entourage
newsreader or any third party newsreader to access this group. You can
download old messages for search. In Entourage 2008 you can use the
Entourage Spotlight search to easily find what you want. Just like email you
can sort by oldest, newest or whatever you want.

Erik,

Please start a new thread with a more accurate subject. You'll have more
eyes looking at your message. Currently, the subject of the thread
you've posted into has nothing to do with your problem.

Always start a new thread for your own questions even if you find others
have the same question. Do not hijack someone else's thread.

Thanks!

I am using Entourage 2004 on an exchange server.

When I open a public message folder it only downloads the header.

My outlook PC downloads the full message.

Can I change the settings to the full message.

my main message folders download the full message.

(in article ):

> Has anyone noticed excessive sync-ing between Office 2008 and their exchange
> server. It seems every time there is an event (deleted mail, sent mail, etc.)

> Entourage re-syncs the folder.
>
> Is there a way to specify the folder sync activity?
>
> Thanks in advance.
> Greg

yes, after any change the change needs to be synced back to the server - I'm
not sure why you would expect anything else?

As I understand it, changes in Entourage are synced back immediately. If
there are no changes then entourage polls the server for any changes at the
server end every 2 minutes.

There is no way to change these settings.
Thanks for the response, Barry. It just seems as if Entourage sync-ing is much more disruptive than Outlook when it syncs with Exchange...I have both Office 2008 Mac and Office 2007 Windows...Windows interface with Exchange is much more efficient...at least from a side by side perspective.

Anyway, I'll live with it and, again, thank you for addressing my question.

Is it possible to change back to Entourage 2004 from 2008 and keeping rest of the application like work excel in 2008 format. I mean to use Entourage 2004 and word excel 2008 at the same time on same machine. Does anybody have any idea about this? coz i m using office 2007 student version for windows and it doesn't have outlook so i m using outlook 2003 and its working fine on same PC. So is same thing possible in mac anybody tried this thing.

Groups do not synchronize with the Exchange Server. This is a limitation of
the Entourage application. However, you can create groups and save & use
them within Entourage; they simply will not be copied to the Exchange
Server.

To have the recipient list concealed, check the option for "Don't show
addressesŠ" in the group window.

This is a common request. If you want to see this feature in a future
version of Entourage, be sure to send feedback to Microsoft.

I do it all the time, everyday. When I realized that the benevolent people at Microsoft took away features in like products, I uninstalled 2008 and re-installed 2004. I then re-installed 2008, but elected to not remove 2004 (the instructions state that both can reside on the hard drive at the same time).

I use Entourage 2004 for my Exchange account - and Entourage 2008 for my pop and Gmail accounts. Although I can't have both versions of Entourage open at the same time, rest assured that Entourage 2004 plays just fine with the rest of Office 2008.

Had I known that they were taking away ALL Exchange functionality in the Home edition, I would have bought two copies during their Black Friday sale (one Home since we have three Macs, and one full version for the Exchange functionality). But, since my work around works just fine, I'll hang on to my money.

I cannot get the out of office on Entourage 2004.
Out of Office does not work in Entourage 2004, you need to use Outlook Web
Access or upgrade to Entourage 2008.

Entourage 2008

I understand the history behind Entourage and the need for a Mac-only product.

Here are a few thoughts that I don't understand, maybe you could shed some light.

I understand that Entourage is not Outlook
Both Office for Windows and Office for Mac Standard are the same price($399).
Office for Mac H&S is $149 and the Mac Standard is $399. Word, PowerPoint and Excel have the same functionality in both. Less functionality than Windows also, but that's another thread.

So, does that mean we are paying $250 for Exchange support?

Outlook with Exchange support for Windows can be purchased for $149 with business contacts. Entourage cannot!

I agree with Mr. Bintener's comments that Entourage is not as fully featured as Outlook.

But, we sure are paying for a full featured version.

With IBM and other corporate users looking at the Mac, once they discover there is no corporate email support that is even close to being on par with Outlook, I think they will close the book on the Mac. At least until a suitable Exchange client is available.

Use Rules. I have a rules lesson if you need more help. It's long so let me
know if you would like the extra help. The examples should help you get
started.

There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)

Use the MLM for all lists. Use rules for the remainder. Try to use
categories instead of individual addresses when possible. When a new address
is added to a contact in the Address Book then it will automatically be
acted on by the rule if you use categories in your rules. See example:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/example/rule002.html>

1) POP Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the Inbox (On My
Computer), NOT when it arrives in any other folder. Once it's moved to
another folder it won't be seen by rules.

2) IMAP Rules are meant to act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in
the IMAP INBOX, not when moved to another IMAP folder.

3) Exchange Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the
Exchange Inbox.

Each type of account has it's own rules. Click on the correct tab to check
your rules. (Mail (POP), Mail (IMAP) Mal (Windows Live Hotmail) Mail
(Exchange), News, Outgoing)

See "Using Rules with Entourage" for help and examples:
