Error opening MSP 2007 Project file from the server.

Getting the following error when opening a project file from a MSP 2007
server environment.

Project XXXXXXX, which was checked out to you, has been modified on the
sever. This could happen if this project file was “Force Checked in†on the
server and modified.

Do you want to ignore the cached copy of this project file and load the
latest from the server?

Choose Yes to overwrite your cached copy of the project file on the server.
Choose No to open the cached copy of the project in read-only mode.
Choose Cancel to abort current load.

Select Yes, The project file will open Read only, Close the project file and
re-open the project file and everything appears to be ok.

Not sure what is happening....

This same user has also reported that many times he goes to open his file
from the server and gets an error that the file is currently checked out and
can only be checked out in Read only mode. If you check the file is not
checked out to anyone. The user hits cancel and try’s a second time to open
the file and is successful.

I assume this is a local cache issue?

Do I need to delete the local cache.

Start > Run
Type %appdata%
Navigate to the MS Project folder
Delete everything under the folder.

Do frequently until SP1.

I have encountered this issue before, and I think it is definitely related
to the Local Cache. There are a number of irritating little issues relating
to the Local Cache. How about this one: the Project Server administrator
deletes a project from the Project Server database. The next time you
launch Project Professional 2007 and click File - Open, do you expect that
the system will "sync up" the Local Cache and remove the deleted project?
You would think the answer is yes, but it is no. The project remains in the
Local Cache and the user must manually delete it.

In your case, I think I would tell people about the issue you describe and
tell them to clean up the Local Cache once in a while. Hope this helps.

Dale thank you very much for the quick response and assistance. As usual
your information is right on the money and I greatly appreciate your
assistance.

Thanks again Dale.
