excel auto save settings not retained

I'm running XP Home and Excel 2000. My auto save
settings (interval and not requiring a prompt to save)
are not be retained after closing and reopening Excel.
anyone know of a patch for this?

SYMPTOMS
When you start Microsoft Excel, the settings that you previously specified
for the AutoSave feature are not retained.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a
(SR-1/SR-1a).

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products
