Finish date discrepency

I have a client who just emailed an MSP file to me. When she created the
schedule one of her tasks has a Finish date of Jan 2nd 2007. When I open the
emailed file she sent, that Finish (on my pc) shows Jan 2nd 2008. After I
update this file and email it back to her - she opens this file and it shows
Jan 2nd 2008.

So the symptom is that for this task, the finish date changes when the file
is emailed (sounds crazy!)

She verifed that her pc has 2 GLOBAL.MPT files - could this be a problem?

Any ideas?

MSPLearner,
Just e-mailing the file will not change dates. My first guess is that
one of you has a different setting for the Project Start Date, or a
calendar setting is different, or a constraint was inadvertently added
or any number of other possibilities. I would check your system time
setting and Project's calendar settings. It also wouldn't be a bad idea
to go through the Project option settings for each of your Project
installations. See where there are differences and then go from there.

That fact that your client has more than one Global file is not all that
unusual. Does she have more than one version of Project installed?
Normally there are two versions, the original backup Global and the
active Global. The difference in Global settings between you and your
client could very well be the reason for the strange behavior, but not
that she has two Global files.

Hi MSPLearner,

In addition to John's suggestions, it may be that Resource Leveling is
set to automatic in your installation of MS Project. If your leveling
calculation is set to automatic, it's possible the project was leveled
when you opened it. When you saved the project, the leveling was saved
as well -- explaining the difference in dates your client sees when she
opens the file again.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
