How do I create a resource calendar for someone who works flextime

I have an employee who is working 8 hours a week on flextime. there is no set
schedule. How do I create a resource calendar for her without having to put
in specific hours (ie. 9:00 AM - 12:00PM)?

Hi Robin,

If you or your employee can not say what times that person will be working
on what day, then a 'dumb' computer will not know. If there is no certainty
of when a resource is available then that cannot be reflected in a calendar
or resource availability schedule.

Project planning generally relies on some certainty of when resources are
going to be available.

Sorry cannot give you the answer you need.

Thanks David. The problem is that in software, we work by the area of code.
It doesn't matter to me what times of the day my developer is going to be
available. What I care about is that I estimate it will take her 16 hours to
write the piece of code I need her to write and she works 8 hours a week
which means it's going to take her 2 weeks to finish her piece of the code.
It doesn't matter to me whether she writes her piece at 10 am or 3 am I want
the ability to say that my developer is available for X hours a week, not
from 9 - 5. Project should be flexible enough to handle that.

Try setting the work as being the 'duration time' , set the resource
availability to .2, as that is the total time per 'normal' working week they
are available to work, and the duration will then be calculated from the work
and units. Hence a 16 hour task will show as 80 hours duration, which is two
working weeks, and that equates to two working weeks for the employee.

I believe that it isn't the role of the PM to micromanage a resource anyway.
So just create a generic calendar that describes the hours she usually works
and let it go at that - it doesn't really matter if the Project schedule
says she's working from 10am to 2 pm and she's really working from 1pm to
5pm. What counts is that if she's handed a piece of work on Monday, you can
have a resonable notion that she'll finish it by Friday and so you can tell
the next guy in line to expect it then.
