I have tried going into the server properties in the printer folder and
creating my own paper size but this size is not avalable when I try to choose
in in Publisher.

Which version of Publisher are you using?

Does your printer have custom page size capabilities? Setup your printer to 5" x 10",
Publisher's page setup will reflect this size when you click custom.

Related question/problem:

I've got a continuous-form (dot matrix) printer that has virtually no limit
to the physical page length. The software I'm printing from can handle page
lengths of several feet. But when I create a custom print form (File-Server
Properties under Printers & Faxes) with a page length of 30 inches, it
doesn't show up in the Form-to-Tray assignment dialog for the printer.

Only custom print forms with dimensions equal or less-than the printer's
maximum "extent" as defined in the registry show up in the Form-to-Tray list.
I verified this by trying different custom page sizes > and < the registry
settings for the printer's extent (look for printMaxYExtent and
printMaxXExtent under
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\....printer
name....\DsDriver).

Is there a way to change printMaxYExtent and/or printMaxXExtent? Just
changing the registry settings doesn't seem to have any effect, and the
values always revert to the original settings. I tried pausing the printer,
stopping the spooler, rebooting, etc. but the values always seem to revert
and the custom form never shows up in the Form-to-Tray list unless it's
smaller than the original extent settings.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Ken

Hi Mary,

Yes, I'm using Windows XP (Pro) + SP2.

Same problem with multiple brands and models of printers. I'm checking mfg
web sites, but so far not finding answers, and not even a forum to ask the
question (some are considered "legacy" printers by the mfg).

Seems like there must be a way to use the registry setting - otherwise why
is it there? ;-)

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Mary,

I posted the question to the fixyourownprinter forum a few days ago but
haven't received any replies yet. I'll keep checking, but in the meantime,
any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Ken
