If you cannot afford Microsoft Word, you can also try OpenWriter which
is part of OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org). This can read/write
Word files, and best of all, it's not only free, but it is also Free!

Unfortunately, it isn't free. The only downloadable version is a 60-day
trial for North American residents.

The cheapest way to get Word (if Word is the only part of the Office Suite
that you want) is to purchase Works Suite 2005 which comes with Word XP
bundled in the package (and a very good package it is for home users too).

If you want more than one element of Office such as Word and Outlook or Word
and Excel, then it is by far cheapest to purchase an Office Suite.
