I have a microphone. Someone wants me to record a short clip and send to
them so they can include in a presentation they are preparing. How do I do
this?

Windows comes equiped with voice recording software. it is located by going
to Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Sound recorder. That should let
you say as much as you want and you should be able to send it without any
trouble.

Not with Office.
Windows has a sound recorder {in Windows XP under Accessories,
Entertainment}. In Windows XP, you are limited to 60 seconds. If you need a
longer clip, you need a analog sound recorder applications. Microsoft offers
one in their Windows XP Plus Digital Media package { less than $ 20 }. You
can find other low cost and free ones using a Goggle search {try analog
sound recorders or similar search}.

Actually, you can get tot he sound recorder from within Office.

In PowerPoint go to Insert|Movies and Sounds|Record Sound. This brings up
the sound recorder. It may limit you to 60 seconds, I don't know.

Also, I'm not saying it's really a good way to do what the original poster
wanted, because the sound is contained in the PPT presentation and the
recipient (or the creator) would have to extract it by saving the file as
HTML. I just wanted to point out that you can indeed get to the sound
recorder from within Office and record simple audio.

Well yes. You can also start the Windows XP Sound Recorder in Word, Excel
etc. by inserting a Object, Wave Sound. But, that is not what I understood
the OP to be asking. As to the 60 seconds, one way to verify is to try it.
Only take a minute.
