My experience has been that if you go to
Save As and create a new name for an
edited file you would then have the new
file and the original. However...if you simply
choose "Save"...the original file is overwritten
(replaced) by the new version.
If you had a program like Norton GoBack
installed...you could revert the drive to a time
before the file was overwritten but as you
discovered...WinXP System Restore doesn't
work for user files.
