how do i unembed pictures in publisher 2003

i recently bought office 2003 and i updated one of my publisher files to
2003, but when i open up the file you can't see the pictures, when i went
into graphic managerit says they are embedded and i don't know how to unembed
them.
i would aprechiate any help any one can give

Pictures in Publisher files have to be embedded. If they're linked, a
copy of the image is embedded in the file anyway (albeit sometimes at a
lower resolution).

From your question, I think you're misunderstanding the meaning of the
word "embed".
