How to add resources to task as they are freed up

How do I add people to a task as they are freed up without changing the start
date of the task? In other words I have resources assigned to various tasks
with various end dates. As they become finished, I would like them to be
assigned to help with one task. I am having trouble trying to keep the start
date in that one task. As I add people, it changes the start date to the date
that the person who is finishing his original task the latest. I would like
to add people as they become free with the start date not changed, but woth
the end date changed (shortened) due to additional resources.

Hi,

It took me some effort to find out what settings you have combined to get
such curious behaviour.

Do you have Automatic Resource Leveling on?
And does Leveling have the parameter "Leveling can adjust..." off?
Change either of these and the behaviour will be as you want it to.
