How to prnt date-sorted tasks/resource?

Hello,

In Project 2002, I want to create/share a list for each resource on the
team, the tasks assigned to that resource, the duration, start and end dates,
and sort the tasks (per resource) by start date. Each team member would see
their "this is what I'm doing when" list.

How do you recommend doing this?

I've been using G view, filter for the resource, sort by date, then print.
But I'd like to get a report going to automate this. I've checked out the
"Who Does What" report and that is close ... but can not get tasks to sort by
start date.

Can I print this report to a saved file or HTML so I can easily share it?

Thanks,
MaryS

Mary,
What you want is the Resource Usage view. It will automatically show
each resource separately. Then sort by start date.

You should be able to save the file as a webpage in HTML. You won't get
the timescaled data but you will get the static data. Go to Save As and
in the "File of Type" selection box at the bottom of the Save As window,
select "webpage". When you hit "Save" the export wizard will appear.
Tell it you want to save Resources and include assignment rows in
output. Then set up the export map with each field you want to export.

However, you may find that it is easier to Save As to an Excel Workbook.
Excel has more flexibility for manipulating the data once it is in the
workbook. For example, you could separate each resource's data unto
separate worksheets, or at least insert page breaks so you can print
individual resource info.

Hope this helps.

John and Mike,

Thanks for help and kind welcome. I will go and read the links Mike.

One Q as follow to John's notes: I used Resource Usage view and organized
columns (ID, task name, work, start, finish) to share w/ others. Good. Then
Save As, get Wizard, start mapping fields - weird problem happens. I think I
get the idea in mapping. Can get ID, work, start and finish to all work OK.
But for the text that is the name of the task to be done, the Column
Definintion dialog box calls this column "name" in both the Field Name and
Title. When I use the drop down in mapping and select "name" it shows the
resource name (person's name). That makes sense - but then what is wrong with
my column name. I don't know what to select in mapping to make the name of
the task show up.

If you can understand my description, do you have any tips?

Thanks much. This is a great resource for me!

Mary,
First of all, you're welcome. We are here to help.

To answer your follow-on question. Project has three parts to its
underlying database - task objects, resource objects and assignment
objects. Each of those object types has its own set of fields. For
example, the Name field for a task object is the task name and the Name
field for a resource object is the resource name. Obviously, they are
different. There is no Name field for the assignment object because the
assignment object simply provides a "bridge" between task and resource
objects. The Resource Usage view is a combination view showing task data
and assignment data. In that view, the Name field is the resource name.
The rows shown below each resource are the assignment "bridges" to the
task objects associated with that resource name.

When you create an export map for resource data, the Name field will be
that for resource objects. To also get the assigned task, you need to
map the Task Name field.

Hopefully I haven't confused you. Reading Mike's tutorials should give
you a more in-depth overview of Project's structure and how to use it.

You're welcome, Mary :)

When running through the wizard, when you reach the page that asks what type
of data do you want, make sure you select Tasks as well as resources.
