Insert Picture from file funtion freezes when clicking a folder

D

daberk

I've run into a situation that I am unable to resolve. When I am trying to
insert a picture from a file the computer freezes when I click on the file
where the picture is located. I have tried different applications to see if
it worked but received the same result. Has anyone encountered this and know
a solution?

JoAnn,
Thanks for the quick response. The answer to your questions is yes and no.
Yes I can insert a picture from a folder that is located in the My Pictures
folder. No I cannot insert a picture from any other folder that is located on
my C drive. I can however insert a picture from any folder located on my
second HD. The problem seems to be isolated to folders on the C drive.

Before you go thinking I have a solution, I don't but hopefully this will
help someone else with your problem.

What file type are you trying to insert? Try a few different types. (I
believe in narrowing down the problem.)

JoAnn,
I'm trying to get to the jpeg files located in my company folder on the C
drive. I have tried changing the file type and I get the same result. I'm
wondering if I'm going to have to uninstall and reinstall office. My instinct
is telling me there may be an association issue or some sort of accessibility
function that has been initiated that is causing access denial. It would be
nice if someone could wave a magic wand and make it all better. LOL

When someone hands you the wand, may I borrow it? Although my computer works
fine (knocking on wood when I type that), there are a few other things I
could use it for.

What version of Office are you using and what patches are installed?
Precisely when do you encounter the hang? When you try to open the
folder? After you select the image and try to insert it? When you
click the drop down for "Look in"?

JoAnn,
Just an update. I found a magic wand and everything is fixed. I'm not
exactly sure what was wrong to begin with or exactly how I fixed it but it's
all better now.

David

Beth,
I am using Office XP Pro and my computer is completely up to date. The hang
occurs after I choose the folder on the drive I am trying to get to the jpegs
that are stored there. I loaded the same folder on a different drive and was
able to insert a picture from it on the other drive but not the C drive.
However, everything seems to be fine now. I waved a magic wand at it and the
problem was resolved.
Thanks.

Daberk...what did you do to fix it? I am having a similar problem I think.
When I click on insert picture the main screen comes up fine but then if I
click on any folder or try to change to a network drive the software hangs
for a minute or so. It does this each time I click on a folder. I have NO
clue what is wrong, but this does NOT happen in Quark or any other
NON-Microsoft programs.
