inserted picture doesn't print

When I insert a jpeg image from my picture files in word, or even a piece of
clip art from my Word files, it shows up nicely on my screen, but it won't
print, and doesn't show in print preview. Only the text shows up. I have
scanned two books on word and all they saw is use the insert command.

On the Print tab of Tools | Options, make sure you have "Drawing objects"
checked.
