Is this a crazy idea

I have a number of tasks and a number of resources, some of the
resources and need to work on specific tasks, but other than that I do
not have any dependencies, but I do have some that are higher priority
than others. I have some dates that need to be met.

I am wondering if I can actually use project to do all the scheduling
for me by just setting relative priorities and deadlined as required.
I think that this should work because my understanding of levelling is
such that tasks with a higher priority will be scheduled ahead of
tasks with a lower priority and that as long as I set all the tasks to
fixed work project should sort it out?

cool exactly what I wanted, all I have to do is put in any necessary
links assign the right people to the right tasks set any relative
priorities and see what happens. Strange but I have not heard many
people of using priorities and levelling this way. So either most
people have too many dependencies or the results are just too
wacky ... guess I will find out on the later shortly.

Hi,

Yes, funny isn't it?
Many people, even authors of books, invent a lot of phony reasons to not
recommend (to say the least) leveling. To me, it is just as important as the
CPM - what you need most depeds on your needs.
And I do have customers using only leveling as there are no links between
teh tasks.
Greetings,
