Keyboard problems

Asperitas

Hello, someone I know has some keyboard problems while other people around me
use the same software and hardware don't have these problems with windows
xp/office 2003.
The problem is: when I type "+e for example, I get ë, however she get's "e,
the same problem is for all the other signs. I guess she turned something on
or off, but she nor I nor other people around me know what.

How can I solve it?

Perhaps I should not be replying here since it is just possible
that Word 2003 differs from Word 2002 that I use. However, I
wonder if the problem might be that your colleague has
auto-correction turned off and the rest of you have it turned on
and are using an office wide setting? For me, I would get, for
example, e umlaut by typing CTRL+: and then an e. I realize that
I could set auto-correct to make "+e become e umlaut (ë).

I wonder if she has turned on foreign keyboard switching by accident.
Right-click her taskbar and see if Language Bar is checked. If it is, then
you should see two letters in a special section of the taskbar (e.g., EN,
ES, FR, DU, etc., depending on which language is selected). Alternatively,
the language bar might be showing up in the title bar for the current
window.

For starters, click the two letters to display a dropdown language menu, and
choose the combo that correspond to your language (mine is EN).

To keep such accidents from occurring in the future, you can turn off or
change the key settings that toggle the keyboard.

Right-click the two-letter combo and choose Settings. In the Text
Services... dialog, click on Key Settings. There, you can change or remove
the key sequences.

Assuming, of course, that this is the problem...
