lettherhead graphic background

I have created a letterhead in Word 03 using files created in Adobe
Illustrator and saved as .tif files. The letterhead does exactly what I want
it to do, except that when it is printed there is a shadow around the graphic
that I can not get rid of.
Under format picture, I have set the fill to NONE, and to white with the
transparency set at 0 and 100% with no differences. (The paper for the
letterhead is white.)
I have checked the original file to be sure that there is no background
color enable, and the exported .tif file to be sure that it did not drag some
unwanted formatting.
Under Border and Shading, I have set everything under Borders to NONE. The
Shading tab is disabled.
The shadow looks tacky. It needs to go away. I am out of ideas. Can you
help me, please?
Thank you.

There probably isn't anything to be done in Word as the "problem" most
likely stems from anti-aliasing in the images themselves. The effect isn't
noticeable on screen, but printing will typically be a more accurate
rendering at higher resolution resulting in a shadowed or blurred effect.
You may be able to make some sort of adjustment in the printer settings, but
doubtful.

If you aren't familiar with anti-aliasing you may want to research it in
Illy's Help. What would probably be the best (and perhaps only) fix to try
is to export again but in the TIFF Options dialog clear the Anti-alias
checkbox. That helps preserve a sharper edge when the artwork is rasterized.
You can also turn anti-aliasing off in Illy's preferences, but whether you
want to change the default will depend on how you use the program.

You might also want to consider exporting in a different format, such as EMF
(which retains most vectors rather than rasterizing them) or PNG (depending
on the nature of the artwork).
