link to a file

i have a theme set up on my page and i use the navigation
view to set up my links with the themes link bars. i
want to link to a file, a pdf specifically, located in
the same directory as the page. the link shows up in the
page, but when clicked it does nothing. it does open a
nother page and the file name and directory shows up in
the address bar, but my pdf is not there. it has
occasionally worked when i have sampled with a hover
button. but for some reason with the link bar it is not
working. please help. TIA. L
