Link to Custom Reports Only

Would someone tell me how to Link directly to a Custom Report without
openning the Project File. I have several project managers using 37 active
project plans for 2007 alone. The Director of IM & Stakeholders would like
to point to Reports only for all Projects created since 2000, Hyperlinkes
contained in a singlel Excel Spreadsheet. Is there a way to build Reports
only, without openning multiple Project Plans for each Report?
Thanks IA,
Brady

I'm assuming you are not using Microsoft Project Server. You can either
write VBA code to open each project (using the hyperlinks) in turn and read
data for your reports or save all projects to a database and read data
directly from the database. You can also write OLEDB code to read directly
from .mpp files without opening them first, but this ability is no longer
supported in 2007.

My VBA book includes working examples of both.

Brady,
I assume you are not using Project Server. If you are, you should post
to our sister newsgroup, microsoft.public.project.server.

If you are using the standalone version of Project, the built-in
reports, whether they are customized or not, are only available when
Project is open. They are embedded in the file and cannot be saved
independently.

You might want to consider creating a master file with each active
project as an inserted subproject (Insert/Project). Then customized
reports can be created and only one file, the master, needs to be open.

Hope this helps.
