I have a desktop at work but I've also been issued a laptop for the occassion
that I need to travel. My question is, is there a way I can recieve my same
mail on two computers?

Sure, to a certain extent 'how' depends on the type of mail account

Your company doesn't permit connecting to your Exchange mailbox from
outside their corporate network (often through a VPN)? What did they
say when you asked your company's IT folks or Exchange admin on how to
access your work e-mails while off-site? They might already have
something setup for that.

I just recently e-mailed them but they haven't got back to me yet but I'm
sure they aren't using their own email server so they have a contract with a
provider. I doubt they are using anything like exchange. Its a small company
of about 150 employees. As far as I know they're only entering the providers
incoming and outgoing servers when creating an account on Outlook. Fyi: its a
pop email.

I would think the e-mail account setup on your work host would let you
know if you are using a company server, a company-contracted service
(which might still appear to be the company server), or an outside
e-mail provider. If using an outside provider, the same setup on your
work computer should work as what is used on your portable computer.
