Looking for a technical writer

S

Sus Joergensen

I'm seeking an experienced technical (and commercial) writer to help author
a single manual (around 150 pages) and also
improve web-site content (and possibly proof read a couple of other
manuals).

The manual is for a multi-platform firewall security component and since the
product and web-site has grown quite a bit,
we'll need you in a period of 4 weeks. Our budget for the 4 weeks is $4000
(which can be tuned to match your specific
skills).

The product is quite advanced and represents many years of development, so
the requirements are:

- Clear writing capability

- Excellent English language!

- A quality-minded, perfectionistic approach

- Good understanding of basic Firewall technology.

- Experience with at least a couple of Firewalls.

- Basic knowledge of TCP/IP and commonly used protocols - such as SMTP, VPN,
etc.

- A good deal of experience with similar tasks

As an example of the areas to be covered in the manual are:

- Traffic Shaping

- "Safemail" SMTP proxy capability

- Stateful Inspection

- Packet filtering

- HTTP URL checking (content matching)

- Next Generation Firewall Technology

- Traffic Accounting

- IP and Port redirection.

I can provide you the actual product and product specific information via
the an IRC chat.

We have very little existing information, so consider this an authoring job.

To write the manual, you will need to:

- Master Word 2002

- Be prepared to use our product on Windows 2k/XP (or Linux)

- Stay online on my chat while writing (dial-up could work, but leased line
is preferred)

- Interview 2 people for details

- Be able and ready to put in significant effort (maybe sometimes more than
8 hours per day)

- Be able to start immediately!

- Make this job your top-priority for the 4 weeks.

Hope to hear from you soon, as we will be making our decision asap!

We can be contacted for additional details at (e-mail address removed)
